Important Classroom Information
Snack: Each day we will have a healthy snack break. Please be sure to review the note sent home in the beginning of the year regarding snack or any other food
items you may be sending to school. We have some children with food allergies throughout the building. Thank you so much for your cooperation and consideration in this very important health issue.
Notes: You must send a note with your child if
there is any change at all from their regular
routine of going home, or if they are going home
with an adult not listed on their emergency card.
If a note is not received, we must send your child
home using their regular daily route.
Gym: Please send in shoes with your
child that they are able to keep at school. Label each
shoe with their name in permanent marker.
Velcro shoes work best for a fast change☺.
Lunch: Students have the option of bringing or
buying lunch. Menus are available online or you can
request a paper copy from the front office.
School Breakfast:
Please remember to have a conversation
with your child about the breakfast that
will be offered each day. To avoid confusion, please discuss with your child whether or not they are to take part in the breakfast each morning. Know that they will be offered breakfast each day and can choose to partake or decline. If your child would like breakfast, your account will be charged $1.50 per day that your child chooses breakfast, or you can send in the money daily. You do not have to commit to partake every day. It can be as often as you
prefer.
Birthday Celebrations: Please let me know in advance if you would like to send in a small treat for the class. If your child's birthday occurs over a break or during the summer, you can chose a date before or after the break or perhaps on your half-birthday. Please remember that Gill is a nut-free school. That includes products made is a facility that uses nuts. Please read the labels carefully.
Birthday Invitations: Please do not send birthday invitations with your child to be passed out in class unless you have one for every student. This causes a great deal of emotional stress when all students are not invited.
Friday Folders: (not in second grade J)
Some classrooms send home “Friday Folders.” It has been my experience that parents get overwhelmed by the amount of papers (school wide and from your child) that appear in the Friday Folders. Because of this, your child will be bringing any necessary papers home every day in their red folder labeled “Take Home Folder”. Please review and empty your child’s folder each evening and send it back to school daily. I will be checkingJ
Absences:
If your child is sick for more than two days, please email or call to notify me. I will be more than happy to compile the missed work to send home if you would like to pick it up.
Bathroom Procedure:
We are fortunate to have one unisex bathroom attached to our classroom. Students will use the restroom when needed, but not during direct teaching time. They will be expected to keep this area clean, as this is a space that we all share. Please talk with your child about using the toilet and how to properly clean their hands afterwards. I will do the same in the classroom.
The Wise Owl (Star Student):
Each week I will choose a student who has been demonstrating “The Gill Way”; Being Safe, Kind and Responsible. That student will be named as the “The Wise Owl” for the entire week. The student is to bring in 4-5 pictures and or items he/she would like to share with the class. The pictures will be displayed in the classroom for the week. The items will be shared then sent home that day. Please choose your pictures and items carefully, accidents sometimes happen and we don’t want your pictures or items to be ruined. Also, The Wise Owl will have “homework”. He/She will need to complete a packet that will be sent home the Friday before that will be shared with the class on Monday. The class will make a friendship book for Wise Owl that he/she will bring home at the end of the week.
